NROTC Scholarship

Join the Navy while attending college through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship program. The purpose of the Navy ROTC Program is to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the Navy's unrestricted line, the Navy Nurse Corps and the Marine Corps. As the largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers, the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program plays an important role in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps. It pays for school, provides leadership training and offers money for up to five years of college. You can apply for the program while you’re still in high school or college.

Scholarship types

NROTC NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

Selected applicants for the Navy ROTC National Scholarship are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selection process, and receive full tuition, books stipend, educational fees and other financial benefits at many of the country's leading colleges and universities. Upon graduation, midshipmen are commissioned as officers in the unrestricted line Naval Reserve or Marine Corps Reserve.

The Navy ROTC Scholarship Program is available to qualified students who graduate from high school before August 1 of the year they intend to start college.

Students selected for the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program make their own arrangements for college enrollment and room and board, and take the normal course load required by the college or university for degree completion. Additionally, scholarship midshipmen are required to follow specific academic guidelines.

MINORITY SERVING INSTITUTION (MSI) SCHOLARSHIPS BENEFITS

MSISR scholarships are offered to interested NROTC Navy Option students who will attend Minority Serving Institution schools, which encompass Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). Students awarded the MSI scholarship receive full scholarship benefits.

TWO AND THREE-YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS

2 year and 3 year NROTC scholarships are awarded competitively by a national scholarship selection board each summer. Students do not need to be currently participating in the NROTC program in order to apply for 2 and 3 year scholarships; however, students participating in the program without a scholarship have a better chance of receiving a scholarship.

Same basic requirements as the National scholarship with the following additional requirements;

  • Must have at least 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) but no more than 120 semester hours (180 quarter hours).
  • Must have a minimum college GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Must be admitted to or in process of gaining admittance to school affiliated with the Navy ROTC Unit from which they are being nominated.

College Program

The NROTC College Program provides a pathway for students to commission and earn a scholarship if they do not already have one. College Program midshipmen participate in all battalion activities and are held to the same standard as scholarship midshipmen. During their time in the program, college program midshipmen are expected to work towards earning a scholarship or advanced standing and their eventual commission in the United States Navy or Marine Corps.

The College Program application is available by clicking here and must be received by July 31st to be processed before the fall semester and November 15th to be processed before the spring semester.

Send your completed application via e-mail to nrotc@famu.edu (preferred). If you are unable to e-mail your application, you may send it via standard mail to the address below.
